Fee:

Online: $12.50 individual, $25 couple

The Mesquite Group offers no discounted fees. If your attorney provided you with an attorney code to use when registering, the attorney will be billed the same amounts as stated above. We provide certificates at no additional fee.

Inability to pay:

The Mesquite Group offers a waiver of the course fee if your income is less 150% of the most currently published HHS poverty guidelines. If your income is more than 150% of the most currently published HHS poverty guidelines, you might be eligible for a fee reduction if: you filed the bankruptcy pro se, are represented by a pro bono attorney, or received a fee waiver from The Mesquite Group in the last 3 months. To receive a fee waiver or reduction, you must provide supporting documentation of income and household size, unless you received a waiver from The Mesquite Group in the past 3 months, then no supporting documentation is required.

Policy toward limited English proficient clients:

The online personal financial management instructional course is only offered in English. The telephone course is offered in English or Spanish. The fees for a class in Spanish are the same as those shown in the Fee section, above. No additional fees are charged for an interpreter; there is no translation fee. If you need a telephone instructional course in a language other than English or Spanish, we ask you to consult the U.S. Trustee list of approved agencies:

Instructor Qualifications:

Our instructors are required to have one or more of the following:

  • A bachelors degree
  • Work experience in one or more of the following:
    • money management
    • financial counseling
    • personal financial education
    • money management instruction
  • Certification by a certifying authority: AFCPE, Institute for Financial Certification, etc.

Live teacher present and instructing students on every telephone class:

A live teacher is on all telephone conference call classes. The teacher is there to instruct and interact with students.

The Mesquite Group does not pay or receive any referral fees for the referral of debtors.

Certificates:

Certificates are provided to clients promptly after completing the class, no later than the next business day by 12:00pm CST.

Certificate provided only if instructional course is completed:

The online class is deemed completed when you have finished the online course and taken the test. If you score less than 70% on the test, an instructor will contact you by phone, email, or live chat. The telephone course is complete after you have participated in a telephone class and submitted the completed test either online, by fax, or on paper. An envelope is provided for you to return the test if you receive your course packet by U.S. Mail. If you score less than 70%, an instructor will contact you by phone.

Disclosure of student information to U.S. Trustee:

The Mesquite Group may disclose your personal information to the U.S. Trustee in connection with the U.S. Trustee's oversight of our company, or during the investigation of complaints, during onsite visits, and during quality of service reviews.

The U.S. Trustee has reviewed only The Mesquite Group's counseling and instructional services and has not reviewed other services we may offer.

Tests to support learning materials, course completion, and measure comprehension:

For the telephone course: the course packet will contain a test with 20 questions that will support the learning materials, ensure completion of the course, and measure comprehension. The completed test must be returned to The Mesquite Group and upon receipt will be graded. If you score less than 70%, you will be contacted by phone by an instructor. You also have the option to take the test online, the link to the test site is provided in your course packet.

For the online course: At the end of the course, you will be directed to the test site via a link. You are required to go to that site and take the 20 question test. After your score is reported to The Mesquite Group your certificate can be issued. If you score less than 70% on the test, you will be contacted by one of our instructors by electronic mail, live chat, or telephone.

Provide learning materials to debtors before the telephone instructional course session:

Learning materials in the form of a course packet are provided to you before entering the telephone instructional course session. The Administrator you speak with when registering will schedule you in a class that will allow you to receive the course packet before the class. The course packet will be sent to you in the most expeditious manner possible: regular U.S. Mail, email, or fax. You must have the learning materials (course packet) in your ossession before you will be allowed to enter the class. An Administrator will call you the day before the class to verify your receipt of the learning materials (course packet).

Completion of a Student Evaluation Form:

The course packet you receive for the telephone instructional course will contain a Student Evaluation Form that you should complete and return to our office. If you receive the course packet by U.S. Mail a return envelope will be provided.
